Xuhua Qin, PhD

Dr. Xuhua Qin, PhD, is currently a licensed psychologist and Multicultural Specialist working for Tufts University Counseling and Mental Health Services. She received her BS in Applied Psychology and M.Ed in Educational Psychology from Beijing Normal University, and then Ph.D. degree in Counseling Psychology from University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign. In her professional career, she has worked for university counseling centers across several states and developed a specialization in mental health treatment and prevention for international students. Her work includes psychotherapy, consultation to faculty, staff, administrators, and parents, and development of outreach programs. She conducts regular workshops with students, parents, and faculty/staff on promoting mental wellbeing among international students, addressing stigma related to mental health issues, helping international students to better adjust to new academic and cultural environments, and promoting dialogue and self-reflection regarding cultural differences and identity development. She also regularly presents at professional conferences, aiming to bring topics of international student and mental wellness to multidisciplinary areas. Dr. Qin is the recipient of the Diversity Leadership Mentoring Award granted by the Association for University and College Counseling Center Directors in 2013.
