Sylvie Wong, EdM

Sylvie Wong, EdM, is a recent graduate of the Harvard Graduate School of Education and works alongside Dr. Cindy Liu on various mental health projects at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Sylvie’s research focuses on mental health outcomes of immigrant families, specifically, how processes of transnational separation and acculturation shape attachment, identity development, and family well-being. She has explored such topics through research with Chinese immigrant families in Boston and through her undergraduate thesis, titled “Transcending the discourse of hero and victim: Overseas Filipina domestic workers’ experiences in the global care chain”. On the community level, Sylvie is interested in using qualitative and quantitative approaches to examine ways to adapt evidence-based mental health programs such that they are culturally sensitive and accessible for racial/ethnic minority groups. With a strong commitment to social justice, research, and a passion to serve children and families, Sylvie wishes to pursue a doctoral program in counseling/clinical psychology in the near future.
