Mai Uchida, MD

Mai Uchida, MD is a child psychiatrist, the Director of the Center for Early Identification and Prevention for Pediatric Depression at Massachusetts General Hospital, and an Assistant Professor at Harvard Medical School. Her work includes investigating neuroimaging based biomarkers and clinical factors that suggest risk for depression in children. She also has been part of a 23 years serial prevalence survey of 8.2 million college student data in Japan. In addition, Mai is a committed advocate for mental health and has articulated her thoughts in a number of international publications, including the International Herald Tribune and Asahi Shimbun, on topics ranging from suicide prevention and informed consent to the experience of being a Japanese female physician in America. Recently, her views on the emotional difficulties that residents in Fukushima, Japan continue to experience post-earthquake and radiation threat were published on abc.com, and her views on the neurobiology behind adolescent suicides were published in the Boston Globe. She received her MD from Hokkaido University School of Medicine in Japan, completed her adult psychiatry residency training at Yale, and fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry at MGH.
