Lusha Liu, MD, PhD

Lusha Liu, MD, PhD, received her medical degree from Guangxi Medical University, P.R. China, and completed her psychiatry residency at the University of Minnesota Medical School. She then conducted psychoimmunology research at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She was a former faculty member of the Mood disorder program at the University of Minnesota Medical School, C-L Psychiatrist at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center at Milton, and inpatient attending Psychiatrist at the St. Luke Hospital, New Bedford, MA. Since 2010, she has been practicing outpatient community psychiatry in Quincy, MA and has a private practice in Fenway where she specializes in cross culture mental health issues for international college students. She completed a 1-year psychotherapy fellowship at the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute in 2013. Dr. Liu is dedicated to actively promoting emotional wellness and healthy parenting in the local Chinese/Chinese-American community, advising high school and college students from P.R. China on issues such as mood disorders, anxiety due to culture shock, and generational conflict. Based on her clinical experience, she has described the cumulative effect of mental health issues across the entire family unit as “Immigration Syndrome” in talks to the MA Psychiatric Society and the Positive Behavior Support Initiative. Dr. Liu is an active parent and serves as a board member on the Student Parent Council at Boston Latin School. As a mother of two college students, she is passionate about addressing mental health disparities among young Asian Americans.
