Cindy Liu, PhD

Cindy Liu, PhD, is a clinical and developmental psychologist and Instructor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School. As the Director of Multicultural Research at the Commonwealth Research Center, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Dr. Liu directs the Developmental Risk and Cultural Disparities Program. Dr. Liu’s research focuses on culture and socio-emotional development from infancy into adolescence, and race and ethnic disparities related to maternal and child mental health in ethnic minorities with an emphasis on Asian Americans. Her program of research incorporates data ranging from behavioral and biological data collected from the laboratory to population level variables from large survey research. She is the recipient of grant awards including those from NIH, American Psychological Association, Sackler Foundation, Robert Wood Johnson, and Harvard Medical School. She has presented her work nationally and internationally to academic and community audience toward raising awareness in Asian American mental health. Dr. Liu received her PhD in clinical psychology from the University of Oregon, and completed her clinical internship at McLean Hospital and postdoctoral fellowship at Children’s Hospital Boston.
