Byung Kim, MD

Byung Kim is a psychiatry resident at the Harvard South Shore Psychiatry Residency Program. Dr. Kim was born and raised in South Korea. He decided to study abroad during high school and attended Emory University in Atlanta, GA and graduated with B.A. degree in Psychology. He then went on to study Traditional Asian Medicine at the Emperor's College of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Santa Monica, CA and passed the board exam to become a licensed acupuncturist in the state of California.  He then served 22 months as a medic in the Korean Army.  Upon completing his service, he completed his medical school training at the St. George's University where he graduated with Magna Cum Laude and Iota Epsilon Alpha distinction. Dr. Kim is interested in utilizing his diverse clinical background to investigate methods to incorporate evidence-based traditional treatment modalities - such as Tai Chi, Acupuncture, and meditation- into conventional treatments in psychiatry. He is passionate about educating patients and providers and has given numerous talks to various audiences on the principles of traditional medicine and its role in today's mental health. He is also interested in developing culturally sensitive interventions for Asians and Asian Americans in the U.S.
